Amanda in Mexico: November & December Update.

Hello from Mexico! I hope this newsletter finds you well as you prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior! It is hard to believe we are 5 days away from Christmas. The past 2 months have flown by as we prepared for Christmas programs and parties, moved into our new school building, as well as a wedding. We are now in Christmas vacation and I am so grateful for this time to recharge and just spend time with family and friends.

November was busy with practice for our Christmas program on December 6, as well as our monthly singing in the Old Folks Homes on November 27. The students did a wonderful job singing and I was so proud of them as they sang their duets and trios for their parents and supporters. It is incredible to see how much the students have learnt to sing. 7 years ago, we were trying to teach our first students just to sing in unity, never mind in tune! On the 13th, we had our Christmas Party at the Trampoline Park. It was a lot of fun to see the joy on the kids’ faces!

The last weekend in November, we were so blessed to have a local youth group come and build four classrooms, 2 bathrooms and a staircase into the new school building Oaks of Righteousness bought in fall. We officially moved into the new school on December 2, and the kids were so excited to have their own school. For the past 4 years, we always used buildings that others were willing to borrow to us. It has been wonderful to have the students separated, which has helped the students concentrate better.

As I mentioned, we also got to be part of a wedding, as my sister Amelia got married. Joel, a teacher at the school, and Amelia met 2 years ago in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon at a youth conference. God knew what He was doing as he began working in their relationship. I feel blessed to have another brother in law and am excited to see how God will use him and Amelia, as they serve Him together. We received many visitors from Canada and Monterrey for this wedding. I was so encouraged by our visitors and thank God for bringing them here for the wedding.

I want to finish my newsletter sharing something the Lord taught this past month. I was reading in the book of Daniel. I was reading in chapter 6:10, “Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” I have read this story so many times, but I never really reflected much on Daniel’s attitude. He was just another hero of the Bible who did something great and was blessed because of it. This time around, I began to wonder what caused Daniel to go back in front of his window where everybody could see him, kneel down, and pray. God can hear us anywhere; it is not that God expected him to kneel in front of that window. God would not have punished him if he had rather prayed in a closet or in his head. I began to realize that Daniel was so committed to his relationship with God that he would rather die in a lion’s den then to be distanced from God. Daniel was not looking for any human approval of what a ‘brave, strong, godly man’ he was. Rather, his focus was wholly on God. He knew exactly where he wanted to be, and that was in His presence. I realized that I am often guilty of fearing those around me, what they will say or think. I allow those things to take 1st place in my life, which ends up distancing me from Jesus. I am amazed at how the Bible never stops working in our lives, God always is ready to speak to us through His word if we are just willing to listen.

Thanks to Rose, Nathan’s wife, and some serious sewing from our teachers, our Director was all decked out with his Tarahumara men’s shirt for the Christmas banquet😁😄

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! God bless!
