Amanda in Mexico: January Update

Kuira! I hope this newsletter finds you well! January started with many very excited kids to be back in school. After a 3-week break, they were ready to get back into studying! I was excited to get back to teaching them, after 3 weeks I had missed them already!

We don’t get snow here in Mexico often, and the kids were thrilled!

This past month we did several projects I had not tried before and I think the students really enjoyed themselves. We learned about the Roman Empire and the students learnt to write their names in the original Latin letters. We also listened to the dramatized Audiobook “Pinocchio” and are preparing to write a book report. It was fun to see the kids paying attention, as they had never listened to an Audiobook before. In art class, we learnt how to make a one-point perspective drawing. I guess they enjoyed it because after I saw several students doing these drawings in their math notebooks…

January 23rd to 25th there was a Missions Conference here in a local church. Oaks of Righteousness set up a booth, and the students had the opportunity to go represent the school over lunch break. It was a joy to see our Tarahumara teachers getting involved, sharing how God had used the ministry to influence their lives and bring them into a personal relationship with Christ. We are so excited for how God is working here in Chihuahua, Mexico. It was truly a blessing to see the three cultures in the area get together to share about what God is doing in various ministries in the area.

One of my students has written a thank you letter for our supporters, which I would like to share with you.

“Hello supporters, my name is Diana, my school is called “Oaks of Righteousness”. I am in grade 8. Why do I like school? I like school because I feel happy at school. I feel happy because I have my classmates and teachers who love me and make me happy because I can play and hang out with other kids. I also like school because I learn about different subjects, which are interesting, such as science, Bible, Social Studies, etc. In my school, there are five female teachers, one male teachers and a director. Their names are Amanda, Amelia, Sandra, Cande, Carolina, Joel and Nathan. In my class, I have 10 classmates and there are more kids in the other classes.

My favorite subject s Math, Music and Bible.

When I grow up, I want to be a Bible teacher. To accomplish this goal, I need to study the Bible a lot and do Biblical activities. I also need to work hard in school and not miss too many school days.

Thank you for your support

God bless you.

From Diana."
